Indiana NAFTO is proud to be able to co-host a forty hour basic FTO course
with the Indiana University Police Department to be held in Bloomington,
Indiana. The following will give you a general outline of the material we
will be instructing. The best news, the cost is only $150.00, payable to
IN-NAFTO.
Dates: Monday July 19th - Friday July 23rd 2004
Objectives: This course is designed to provide knowledge and training to
develop Field Training Officer's skills. Each new FTO will be presented with
ideas and techniques to assist them in becoming more professional and
confident in the application of their skills. This course is based on the
Bloomington Police Department Field Training Program which is a modified
"San Jose" program.
Upon completion the FTO will be able to:
Discuss the "San Jose" and other program models
Understand differences from Lesson Plans and Check-off List
Identify demands on FTOs as Instructors
List five of the errors in rating
Understand the basics of Adult Learning Theory
Identify liability issues
Understand performance evaluations
Instruct from Training Briefs
Understand the Rating Scale and Reference Numbers
Complete the Daily Observation Report
Develop a Scenario and Additional Training plans
Counsel the new officer/deputy
Understand skills needed for leadership
Have a working knowledge of Problem Solving
Mentor the new officer/deputy
Understand the purpose of program management and control
Time: Class is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
First day check-in (Monday) will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. with class
beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Cost: $150 per student, Payable to IN-NAFTO. Price includes $40 membership
to NAFTO, student manuals (print and CD form), handouts, etc...
Location: Room 001 in the Kelley Graduate School of Business Building at
Indiana University, Bloomington (Located at the South-West corner of 11th
And Fee Lane). Free parking available at the 11th and Fee Parking Garage.
